Homemade Cholia Pulao Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups basmati rice
1 cup cholia / fresh green chana
1 no big potato cut into cubes
2 nos big onions sliced
1 no tomato cut into cubes
½ cup fresh greased coconut
4 tbsp maggi coconut milk
1 tbsp chopped garlic
½ tbsp chopped ginger
2 nos chopped green chillies
some chopped coriander leaves
1 cinnamon stick
2 nos green cardamom
1 black cardamom
1 anise star
1 tsp shahi jeera/ cumin seeds
½ tbsp garam masala
salt as per taste
Method:
Clean, wash and soak the rice in 2 cups water for half an hour.
In a pressure cooker heat 2-3 tbsp ghee then add the shahi jeera when it splutters add the cinnamon, anise star, black and green cardamom. Then saute the garlic, ginger and green chillies. Add the sliced onions and cook till pinkish in colour.
Add the chopped potatoes, cholia, salt and all the spices. Cook for a minute.
Remove the water form the rice and keep it aside.
Add ½ cup water to the coconut powder and make a paste .
Add the rice water and coconut milk to the cooked masala then add the rice. Lightly mix it. Sprinkle the fresh grated coconut and tomatoes all over the rice.
Close the cooker and cook on medium flame upto 3 whistles.
Open the cooker once the pressure is released ,
Remove in a serving bowl and enjoy with some curds and pickle.
