Homemade Karela Peel Thecha Recipe

Course : Side Dish

Cuisine: Indian

Servings: 7-8 pax

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time : 5 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 500 gms karela/ bitter gourd peel

  • 1/4 cup peanuts without skin

  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves

  • 4 nos garlic pods

  • 3 nos spicy green chillies

  • 1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds

  • salt as per taste

Method:

  1. Peel the karela then add salt to the peel and keep aside for at least half an hour.

  2. In a sieve wash the peel under running water and allow all the water to come out . Squeeze out the remaining water and keep aside.

  3. Peel, wash and chop the garlic into half.

  4. Clean, wash the green chillies and coriander leaves.

  5. In a pan heat 1 tbsp oil then fry the peanuts till slightly brown in colour then add the garlic, green chillies, jeera, salt and coriander leaves and cook for half a second.

  6. Remove in a plate and allow it to cool.

  7. In a mortar add the mixture and with a pestle grind it into a coarse paste. Alternatively it can be grinded in a mixie on pulse mode only.

  8. Remove in a serving bowl and enjoy this spicy thecha with your meals.
