Homemade Mewa Paag Recipe

Ingredients for Mewa:
50 gms makhana / lotus seeds/ foxnuts
50 gms padam/almonds
50 gms kaju/ cashewnuts
50 gms melon seeds
100 gms dry grated coconut
25 gms gond / edible gum
1 tsp cardamom powder
1/3 cup desi ghee
Ingredients For Paag:
1 cup sugar
½ cup water
Method:
Heat ¾ cup of the desi ghee then add the Gond and fry on low flame till it is crispy and fluffy. Remove and keep it on a plate to cool. Once cooled crush it with your fingers or with a pestle. Keep aside for future use.
In the same ghee fry the padam then the kaju on medium flame. Remove and allow them to cool.
Again fry the melon seeds on medium flame then remove on a plate .
Fry the makhana in the same ghee for just a minute then remove and allow it to cool.
Lastly fry the grated coconut on low flame for a second. Remove and keep aside.
In a grinder jar add the fried makhana, padam, kaju and melon seeds and grind them on pulse mode to form a coarse mixture. Remove and keep aside.
In a plate add the grated coconut, melon seeds, cardamom powder and the ground mixture. Mix well.
In a kadia add the sugar and water and cook on low to medium flame till the sugar melts to form a sticky syrup. It should not be a one thread consistency.
Add the mixture and the remaining ghee and cook just for a minute till it forms a soft dough and leaves the side of the kadia.
Grease a plate or tin with butter paper and pour the dough in it . Level it with the back of a spoon and allow it to rest for an hour. Then cut into square pieces.
