Homemade Red Spinach and Dal Recipe

Homemade Red Spinach and Dal Recipe

Servings: 5-6 pax

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time : 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 bunches red spinach

  • 1/2 cup tur or yellow moong dal

  • 2 nos onion chopped finely

  • 2 nos tomatoes chopped finely

  • 1 no green chilli chopped into big pieces

  • 1.5 tsp chopped garlic

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 2 whole red chillies

  • salt as per taste

Method:

  1. Remove the stalk from the spinach leaves. Wash it properly then chop it finely.

  2. Clean, wash and soak the dal in 3 cups water for about half an hour. Then remove the water from the dal and keep the water aside for future use.

  3. In a pressure cooker add the chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilli, turmeric powder, salt , soaked dal, chopped spinach along with 3 cups water which was kept aside .

  4. Close the pressure cooker and cook on low flame for 5 minutes.

  5. Open the cooker once the pressure is released. With a hand rai mix the dal and spinach well.

  6. In a small pan heat 1 tbsp ghee for the tadka then add the mustard seeds when it splutters add the chopped garlic and whole chillies and pour the tadka on the dal.

  7. Remove in a serving bowl .

Serve this yummy red spinach dal with rice or chapati.
