Homemade Barnyard Upma Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cup barnyard millet
2 cups water
1 big onion chopped
1 tsp ginger chopped
1 no green chilli chopped
1-2 strings curry leaves chopped finely
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 tbsp urad dal
2-3 tbsp ghee
salt as per taste
1/2 lemon juice
some coriander leaves chopped
Method:
Clean, wash and then soak the barnyard millet in 2 cups water for half an hour.
Similarly clean and wash the dal and soak in some water for 5 minutes. After the soaking time drain all the water from the dal and keep aside for future use.
In a pressure cooker heat 2 -3 tbsp ghee then add the mustard seeds when it splutters add the urad dal. Then add curry leaves, ginger and green chilli and chopped onions and sauté till the onions are pinkish in colour.
Add the barnyard millet along with the water and salt. Mix well and then close the cooker. After one whistle put the flame on low and cook for another 5 minutes.
When the pressure is released open the cooker .
Mix the upma and remove in a serving dish. Squeeze the lemon juice and garnish with some chopped coriander leaves.
