Homemade Moong Dal Uttapam Recipe

Course : Breakfast /Snack

Cuisine: Indian

Servings: 8 - 9 nos

Soaking Time 4-5 hours

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time : 40 minutes

Total Time: 50 minute

Ingredients for Batter:

  • 1.5 cups moong dal (yellow)

  • 1/4 cup curds/yogurt

  • 3 tbsp rawa/semolina

  • 1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp whole black peppers

  • 1 tsp chopped ginger

  • 5 nos chopped green chillies

  • 1-2 string curry leaves

  • salt as per taste

  • 1 tsp soda bi carb

Ingredients For Topping:

  • 1 no big onion chopped finely

  • 1 no big tomato chopped finely

  • 1 no small green capsicum chopped finely

  • some chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

  • 1 tsp chaat masala

Method:

  1. Clean, wash and soak the moong dal for 4-5 hours.

  2. After the soaking time drain out all the water in a sieve.

  3. In a grinder jar add the dal and all the ingredients of the batter excluding the soda bi carb and then grind into a fine paste.

  4. Allow the batter to rest for about 10 minutes. Then add the soda bi carb and lightly mix it. If required a little water can be added to the batter to get a dropping consistency .

  5. Heat a non stick dosa tawa and place a small ladle of the batter and lightly spread it to form a small round disc. Then sprinkle some chilli and chaat masala all over the uttapam and then the chopped onion, tomato and capsicum. Sprinkle some oil also all over it and cook on low flame till it is golden brown in colour form below. Flip and cook on the other side too.

  6. Remove on to a plate.

  7. Repeat the process till all the batter is used up.

Enjoy thse yummy uttapam with some chutney.
